Squaw Valley Electric is Proud to be sponsoring Ryan Herhusky through his ski racing season! Ryan raced in the 2017-2018 season as a first year U16. After a large training block in Copper in November, he started the season with a 2nd place finish in the Clifford Mann GS Classic at Mammoth. He was selected to the National Performance Series in Burke, Vermont where the top 25 U16 men in the country have an opportunity to collaborate with training and tech races. He was top 15 in both GS races at National Performance Series.  Returning to Far West, he raced in the Wild West Regionals Qualifiers notching a 4th place finish in slalom at Alpine Meadows and another top 5 finish at the Minaret Challenge in Mammoth. His strong results qualified him for the Western Region team and he competed in Alyeska at regionals with a top 15 in Super G and a top 10 in GS. Following regionals, he was one of only five men from Far West to qualify for the Western Region Nationals team and went to Mission Ridge to compete at U16 Nationals as a first year U16. He was 25th at nationals in Super G and was fifth in the U16 Nationals Skillsquest competition. Following nationals he went to Bend for the Western Region Spring Speed Series and was 3rd in Super G.

Ryan is a straight A student at Sugar Bowl Academy and was the recipient of scholarships from Lake Tahoe Ski Foundation and Far West Masters. He gave back to the masters by forerunning at the McKinney Cup at Mt. Rose where he had the opportunity to talk to Tamara McKinney about her World Cup success.

In the offseason, Ryan races mountain bikes (cross country and enduro) and raced JV as a freshman at the NICA Nevada State Championships with a third place finish at state championships. He also won the Classic course of The Great Trail Race in October in a stacked field of expert riders.
